TI230 Economic Geography
Second Year B.A.
The main objective of this course is to give you a good grounding in some of the major debates going on within Economic Geography, and to provide you with a familiarity with the its main theoretical constructs and methodologies. An important aspect of the course will be to examine the influence of the new information and communication technologies as one of the factors contributing towards globalization, and its implications for regional and rural development. Like other areas of social science, economic geography is influenced by a variety of political and ideological perspectives such as neoliberal and Marxist. Among the objectives of the course is to help students be aware and critical of these underlying influences.
