WDC_MED_TECH:

"Medical Technology and Devices Industry in the West of Ireland: An Industry Based Case Study"

CISC undertook this research project in 2003 on behalf of the Western Development Commission, in order to facilitate its strategy deliberations. This work built on previous research undertaken by CISC personnel in respect of the medical devices sector in the BMW region in Ireland, which explored the relevance of the clustering concept for this sector in the Atlantic Technology Corridor.


A related study reviewing international trends in a number of industry sectors was undertaking in parallel for the WDC (see link below).

About the Western Development Commission (WDC)
The Western Development Commission is a statutory body promoting economic and social development in counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, Galway and Clare.
It engages in three principal activities:


Ensuring that economic and social policy effectively meets the development needs of the Western Region
Fostering and promoting regional development initiatives
Managing the Western Investment Fund, which provides risk capital by way of equity and loans on a commercial basis to projects and businesses
