Brian Harney joined CISC as a recipient of a Ph.D. Studentship in the High Performance Work Systems group at NUI Galway in October 2004, having spent the previous year as a lecturer (fixed term) in Strategy and Human Resource Management at the Department of Management, NUI Galway. Brian holds a B.A. (Hons)in Business and Sociology from the University of Dublin, Trinity College and an MBS (Corporate Strategy and HRM) from NUI, Galway. In 2004 Brian was a recipient of the Irish Institute of Management Sir Charles Harvey Medal as one of the most outstanding graduates of a postgraduate Business Degree in Ireland. Brian�s MBS thesis examined the determinants of HRM in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises. Brian has presented papers based on this research at the AILR/IRRA best papers section, Industrial Relations Research Association Conference (2005), and at the Irish Academy of Management Conference (2004), where he received joint best paper award in the HRM track. Brian has work experience in HR and strategy consulting and has contributed to a number of independent research projects, the most recent being a comprehensive review of University Technology Transfer. Brian is currently conducting his PhD, exploring the determinants of HRM, at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge where he is the recipient of a Cambridge European Trust Bursary and a Fellow of the Cambridge European Society.
