Majella Giblin joined CISC as a recipient of a Ph.D. Studentship in the Industrial Clustering group at NUI Galway in October 2002, having previously worked as a research assistant and part-time lecturer in the Department of Management at NUI Galway, and as an economic consultant at Galway Development Services International. Majella Giblin?s M.Econ.Sc. thesis at NUI Galway examined technology policy in Ireland with particular respect to the ICT sector, and this was preceded by the award of B.Comm. degree, with specialisms in economics and marketing, also at NUI Galway. Research projects Majella Giblin has undertaken have included her contribution to work in the OECD National Innovation Systems Programme, which involved a focus on the ICT cluster in Galway and the role of spin-offs from plant closure in attracting inward investment, and a further study of 250 ICT companies in the broader Galway-Limerick-Shannon region, with a view to identifying cluster characteristics.
