His current projects deal with local responses to the politics of 'border protection' and Australian trade in fresh and processed food industries; industrial changes and labour market impacts in outer suburbs of globalising Australian cities; and local responses to national labour market deregulation. He has been an adviser on urban and regional development to federal, state and local governments in Australia and is a recent past president of the Institute of Australian Geographers.
