Sean O Riain is Professor of Sociology at NUI Maynooth. He has carried out research on various dimensions of globalisation - including the interaction of states and markets in a global economy, the dynamics of global workplaces and methodological issues in studying global processes. A forthcoming book 'The Politics of High Tech Growth' (Cambridge University Press, June 2004) explores the state policies that shaped industrial development during the 'Celtic Tiger' years and their institutional and political conditions. Current research projects include the politics of high tech workplaces, e-inclusion and the contribution of Karl Polanyi to sociological understandings of economic life.
